Palm Springs is known for its Desert Resorts, Coachella, and Son Bono. Hollywood stars and socialites from Los Angeles travel two hours to soak in the desert sun and splash in hotel pool parties. But what if you wanted to do something different than the same ole Palm Springs Scene? What if you wanted to go on a road trip to visit something so unique and strange you wouldn’t think you were in America anymore. That is where the Salton Sea and Salvation Mountain comes into play.
The final day of the cruise was an interesting one. After four days full of excursions at Endicott, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan, we finally had some downtime to enjoy the ship on our own. We were a little exhausted from my days full of activities, so this Sunday at Sea was a more relaxing one.
Earlier this week, mom and I boarded a plane to Atlanta, so we could drive to Nashville to watch the Great American Eclipse in Clarksville, Tennessee. Having never seen an eclipse, the last one was February 26, 1979, and the fact that August 21 is my mother’s birthday, we thought this would be the best way to celebrate!
Ketchikan was the last port of call until the long sail back to Vancouver. We were also in port from 11:15 am until 7:45 pm, so it was a different vibe and feel for excursion day. I had decided to purchase tickets online through a third party to visit Misty Fjords National Monument, so it was the first time that we were actually on our own.
The fifth day of the cruise we were ready to see some whales!
Before we were even able to get off of the ship, we ran into Mickey and Minnie Mouse in the hallway! Even though there are tons of planned character events, my family opted out of participating in any of these activities due to lines and just the time allotted to see the characters.
However, I did want to see Mickey and Minnie in their Alaskan Gear and was so excited that I ran into them in the hallway on the way to our excursion. Granted, they do not stop to take photos so if you run into a character on the ship, be quick with your photos! I was able to snap a few in the hallway before they had to disappear to their next appearance.
