What is Amazon Prime Day 2022?

Amazon Prime Day began in 2015 and is always during the work week – make sure that you don’t plan any day-long meetings because many of the lightning deals are gone within just a few moments.

Amazon Prime Day usually surpasses sales for Cyber Monday and Black Friday because it is just so easy to log on, add to cart and allow the packages to roll in over the next 1-2 days.

This year, you have a full 48 hours to buy all on sale goodies that you need.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2022?

With a full 48 hours, this Amazon Prime Day will begin in the wee hours of Tuesday, July 12 to the late hours of Wednesday, July 13. Since Amazon headquarters are in Seattle, all deals run off of the Pacific time zone.

The date of Amazon Prime Day was officially announced on June 25. We will get the official time of Amazon Prime Day in the next few days, but since Amazon Prime Day is going to last 48 hours this year, its more than likely going to start at 12 am Pacific/3 am Eastern

Previous Amazon Prime Day Start times and dates:

Wednesday, July 15 (2015) — Started at 2:59 am. ET.
Tuesday, July 12 (2016) – Started at 2:59 am ET.
Monday, July 10 (2017) – Started at 9 pm ET and ran for 30 hours.
Monday, July 16 (2018) – Started at 3 pm ET and ran for 36 hours.
Monday, July 15 (2019) – Will start at 3 am. ET and run a full 48 hours.

Do I need to have a Prime Account?

You could very quickly borrow your sister’s or neighbor’s Amazon Prime account, but with the 30-day trial, there is no reason to skip out on having your own account for at least 30 days.

There will be some non-Prime Member deals, but many of the sales will be for those members that committed to the 30-day trial, monthly, or yearly Amazon account.

Having a Prime account is certainly worth it after Amazon Prime Day due to all of the fun and exciting perks that come with membership.

How can I sign up for Amazon Prime?

The only caveat of Amazon Prime Day is that you must be a member of Amazon Prime. No worries, If you are not already a member, signing up for Amazon Prime is super simple!

If you sign up for Amazon Prime through this link, you will receive 30 days free of Amazon Prime. After that, it is only $12.99 per month or $119 for the whole year.

Better yet, students get six months of Amazon Prime Free courtesy of Sprint. After the free six-month trial is over, Prime student is only $6.49 a month. Those families that are on EBT debit card can get Amazon Prime for $5.99 per month.

After you sign up, click to read all of the best perks of being an Amazon Prime Member.

Amazon Prime Day Deals

Even though we do not know what is on sale of Amazon Prime Day, just yet, there are tons of predictions online and past Prime Day Trends that will allow us to guesstimate what will be discounted during Amazon Prime Day’s 48-hour sale.

Amazon Products

A lot of Amazon’s products are on sale during Prime Day, which is terrific for your pocketbooks! If you are looking to beef up your home security system with Ring or Blink, looking to make your home smarter with Echo, or want to relax with Amazon Fire, these products are typically on sale during Amazon Prime Day.

I am thinking about investing in the Ring system so I can monitor my property better while I’m traveling, and spying on my fur-babies.

4k TVs

I’m not sure how often people replace their TVs, but it seems like every year TVs are getting brighter, smarter, and with more functionalities. This past Christmas, we just replaced our TV and you can too when the 4K TVs go on sale.

This is the TV that we bought this past Christmas. We love using our Prime Discounts to watch Amazon Videos streamed directly through the TV.

Wireless Headphones

Wireless headphones are some of the best investment any music, movie, or podcast lover can purchase. I love using my wireless headphones while spinning on my DIY Peloton bike.

The last thing I need is a wire to get in the way. I’m loving these wireless earphones.

Smart Watches

Fitness trackers and smartwatches appear to be on everyone’s wrist and for good measure! You can easily ignore that phone call or text without ever having to pull out your phone.

Watches and trackers have been going down in price since February so keep your eyes peeled for Samsung Gear, Fitbit, or Apple Watches. I’m currently rocking an Apple Watch.

Kitchen Gadgets

If there is a Kitchen Gadget that is all the rage, it will probably be on sale on Amazon Prime day. Some of my favorite Kitchen Gadgets include my Vitamix, but Amazon has some super cool gadgets like the Rapid Slicer Food Cutter and the Hamilton Beach Dual Breakfast Sandwich Maker.

Last year the Insta Pot was all the rage and people bought them up instantly! Over 300,000 were sold, and now those people are making the yummiest meals (I hope).

Laptops and Electronics

As a blogger and freelance writer, I wouldn’t be anywhere without my computer. Many times throughout Amazon Prime Day Laptops and Tech gadgets go on sale

Outdoor Gear

As a travel blogger, outdoor gear is essential to me! There are always fun things I can buy when it comes to outdoor gear, but surprisingly Amazon sold over 150,000 Lifestraw Personal Water Filter last year!

Baby Toys and Gear

I don’t know about you, but it seems like all of my friends are pregnant right now! With baby shows still a few weeks away I’m hoping some items off of their baby registry go on sale so I can be the super cool aunt.

What were last year’s best-selling Prime Day Deals

Insta Pot original price original price $80-130

As I said before, over 300,000 Insta Pots were sold on Amazon Prime Day in 2018, and many people are betting that the Instapot will be a massive contender for 2019.

In the few weeks leading up to Prime Day, the Insta Pot (the 6 Quart is usually $100) is on sale for $80 with the hopes that it will be around $50 for the 48-hour sale.

I currently do not have an Insta Pot, but I’m always looking for a way to elevate my cooking!

DNA Kits for Humans and Pups original price $50-200+

DNA kits have been on the market for a while, but many people haven’t done an at home kit yet (I haven’t, but my sister has!).
These kits were last on sale during Black Friday, so the prediction that they will be on sale for Amazon Prime Day is pretty reliable.

Do you have a mutt? Another testing kits that will be available through Amazon Prime deals include the Embark Dog DNA Kit! This kit helps identify the breed, genetic markers, and more.

For any DNA kit, you may be able to save anywhere from $50-$100 off, but make sure to check out the Lightning Deals for added savings.

Lifestraw Personal Water Filter original price $18

If I were ever on Naked and Afraid, I would bring one of these LifeStraw Personal Water Filters with me (and I would probably be off of the excursion by day 4).

With the usefulness and life-saving benefits of the Lifestraw, it isn’t a surprise that people bought these up so quickly last year. This straw can remove bacteria, parasites, and microplastics from any water source.

This personal water filter system seems so handy that I’m thinking about buying three for my family to put in our Emergency and Hurricane Preparedness stash.

What to Avoid on Amazon Prime Day

Even though Amazon Prime Day is an excellent day to get discounted goods, make sure you are smart about what you buy! This is a great time to stock up on birthday, anniversary, or holiday presents – but don’t go overboard and buy something just because it is on sale.

These are some items that you should avoid buying on Amazon Prime Day.

Refurbished Products

I love a good discount, just like the next girl, but some refurbished products are a little…sketchy. If you do find a good deal on a refurbished product, check to see who the seller is and their return policy.

Crazy Discounted Products

There is a reason why that Electronic Device or Kitchen Appliance is 99% off because it is crap! Seriously! My mama taught me that if something is too good to be true, it probably is.

Buying to Buy

As much as I hope you get all of your shopping done, don’t just buy to buy. If you only eat boiled eggs twice a year, do you need the perfect boil egg cooker because it is on sale?

How to Ensure you are Getting a Good Deal

Do a Quick Google Search

If you are not a Price is Rice Fanatic and do not know that the Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine is worth $200 – do a quick Google search before buying!

Check Price Histories

Checking price histories is the best way to see if something is going to go down for Amazon Prime Day and to see if it is a great deal. I love using the Google Chrome Extension Honey to track all Amazon purchases I have on my wishlist.

Honey will also let you know if Amazon has a better deal on another page. Honey is a great tool no matter if you are signing up for Amazon Prime Day or just doing some browsing.

Read the Fine Print and Reviews

There is a reason why we review everything. Whether it is a restaurant, hotel, or product, quickly browse the review to see if the product is right, or if the company paid people to leave a review.

Wait what? People are PAID to leave reviews.

Yes – check the dates and if you see a bunch of reviews in a short amount of time and no review before or after that, something is super sketchy about that product.

What’s on sale right now

This is what is on sale right now as of 6/26/2019 this list will be updated as often as I can!

Free Amazon Prime Membership perks

So now that you are super excited about Amazon Prime Day and signed up for your 30-day free trial, let me inform you about all of the fun perks you get with your Amazon Prime Membership.

1. Amazon Household

Do you have more than one adult in your family and you are sick of getting an email every time your loved one buys something from Amazon? Well, now you can link you and one other adult’s Amazon account to share most of the amazing Amazon Prime Benefits.

This benefit is at no additional cost. You need to ensure that both adults agree to share payment methods for membership.

2. Free delivery

Yes, you heard me! Your monthly or yearly membership gives you free delivery! Now this means a multitude of things. Free delivery can be anywhere from Same Day (depending on location and if you spent at least $35) to 2-day shipping.

Trust me, once you get in this 2-day shipping (or less) lifestyle going on, you will be super spoiled and will never be able to wait longer than 48 hours for your goodies to show up at your door.

3. Free 2-hour Delivery

In some cities around the United States, you can get free 2-hour grocery delivery for groceries, restaurant food, and other items. Currently, in New Orleans, we only have the option to purchase from Whole Foods for Delivery

4. Alexa Deals

If you own an Alexa-compatible device, you can easily ask her to list of any of the deals by asking “Alexa, what are your deals?” when Alexa is telling you her deals, she will go one by one with the item and exclusive deal and then pause so you can order.

5. Grocery Savings with Whole Foods Market

Once Amazon acquired Whole foods, all prime members can receive exclusive perks and discounts. Also, if you have the Amazon Prime Credit Card, you can save an extra 5% on your Whole Food Purchases.

6. Scheduled in Home, in a Car or Garage Delivery

Worried about leaving packages on your porch? Now, in limited cities, you can set up home, car, or a garage as the place where Amazon will deliver your packages!

The garage software costs between $50-125 but deliveries are free for Prime Members

7. Exclusive Lightning Deals

Even during non-Prime day events, Amazon Prime offers Lightning deals. Members have 30 extra minutes to scoop up these lightning deals ahead of the nonsubscribers.

8. Amazon Dash

Only Amazon Prime members can buy the Amazon Dash Button to help easily purchase products for the house. Each dash button costs $4.99, and when you press the button, your paper towels or laundry detergent is automatically ordered for you.

9. Subscribe and Save

One of the best ways to save money on monthly supplies, like vitamins or diapers, is to subscribe and save. Once you add at least five items to your subscribe and save, you can save up to 20 percent off.

10. Try Before you Buy Clothes

If you love buying clothes from Amazon, but you don’t want to put up a bunch of money use Prime Wardrobe.

Just load up your cart with qualified Prime Wardrobe items, try them on in the comfort of your house, and send back whatever clothes you don’t like in the pre-packaged resealable box.

11. Free TV Shows

There are so many TV shows, movies, and original content on Amazon right now and much of it is free with your Prime Membership. You can easily stream to your Smart TV, Amazon Fire Stick, or Google Chrome.

12. One week free HBO

Did you know you can get a free week of HBO from being an Amazon Prime member? Make sure to take advantage of this when you have a week where you can watch all of your shows; otherwise, it is an additional $14.99 per month for the HBO streaming service.

13. Ad-free Songs

Did you know that Amazon Prime has ad-free unlimited music? With over 2 million tracks you will be able to find something to listen to.

Need more music? For a small fee, you can enroll in Amazon Music Unlimited (more like Spotify), but it does cost extra, but Prime members get a discount.

14. Free Audiobooks

Reading might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but free audio books are something everyone can get on board with. Audible Channels for Prime (a $60 value, per year) give all Amazon Prime Members the ability to stream audio books.

Unfortunately, you cannot download the audiobooks, but hits come in handy for long road trips with internet access.

15. Free(ish) Washington Post

For six months you can get a free digital subscription to the Washington Post, after that subscription you can subscribe for the discounted rate of $3.99 a month (instead of the regular $9.99 per month).

16. Early Access Kindle books

Each month you are allowed to purchase one free e-book per month with a program called Kindle First. You get to choose from six different yet from being released books.

I try to get a book each month even though I haven’t read them all.

17. Free books, magazines, comics and more

The lending library allows you to check out free e-books on your Kindle, Phone, or tablet – basically, anything that can run the Kindle app. There are amazing magazines, comics, travel guides, and more.

18. Games with Loot and Twitch

For those hardcore gamers, Twitch allows users to watch and share video games with other users. If interested in the gaming lifestyle, Amazon Prime offers Free Games with Prime.

You need to have a free Twitch account that is enabled with Amazon Prime and the Twitch desktop client.

19. Unlimited photo storage

As a travel blogger who’s computer died earlier this year (and lost almost all of my photos b/c I didn’t have the cloud turned on), Unlimited photo storage is a must. Instead of paying Apple for data each month, I can use Amazon Drive to upload all of my photos from my phone, tablets, and laptop.

If you have documents and videos that you need to store, Prime Photos gives you 5GB.

Luxury Amazon Perks for Extra Cash

Amazon Fresh

In select cities, you can order grocery and local delivery to your door the same day or the next day. This program is slightly different from the free Whole Foods delivery option because it uses different stores in a specific local area (think more like Instacart).

This benefit costs $14.99 per month, and you must have a prime membership.

Kindle FreeTime Unlimited

A subscription service for those that are ages 3 to 12, this service delivers child-friendly apps, e-books, games, movies, and TV shows so that kids do not stumble upon strange entities on the internet.

This benefit is compatible with Kindles, Fire tables, and Fire TV, and parents can control time limits, adjusting content filters, and review any photo their child takes with the meal.

You do not need Prime to enjoy this benefit, but it is cheaper with Prime. The Prime cost is $2.99 for one child and $6.99 for four children per month. Without Prime, you are looking at $4.99 and $9.99 respectively.

Kindle Unlimited

Kindle Unlimited allows you to have Prime Reading and Audible as a stand along with service. You still have a limited number of free e-books, magazines, and audiobooks, but you do not have the full Prime Experience.

At $9.99 per month, you might as well splurge and get the full Amazon Prime experience.

Music Unlimited

If you love Spotify and Apple Music, you may want to look into Music Unlimited. With your prime membership, for a single person, you have unlimited access to tens of millions of songs for $7.99 per month.

If you have a family plan that ups it to $14.99 per month.

Amazon Home Services

Amazon Home Services offers customers over a thousand different services for it’s Amazon Prime Members. Looking for someone to clean your house? Mount that new TV you just bought? Paint your home? How about just a general Handyman? Amazon Home Services is there to help.

Amazon Prime Day
